What differences are there Between whole house fans and attic fans?

When you are making a choice between getting a whole house fan or an attic fan, you might be wanting to know more about the differences between the two so that you have a better idea of what would be right for you.

Each kind of fan set-up has their own strong suits which might appeal to you for various reasons. For example:

Attic Fans

    • Attic fans are able to help prevent any heat originating from a hot attic from making its way down to the living space underneath.
    • Attic fans can cut down the temperature in your attic by up to 50 degrees and the living space temperature by up to 10 degrees.
    • Attic fans blow out any hot air from the attic through a well placed roof-level vent.

Whole House Fans

    • Whole house fans are installed up in your ceiling in a centralized area.
    • The fan will blow out any stale, hot air up to your attic where it is subsequently vented out.
    • A whole house fan is able to provide you with enough air to cool your home in about one hour.
    • Whole house fans draw in cool evening air from your open windows, then pull in any warm air residing in your home's living space.

What is a PSC Motors?

Cascade series attic fans feature a Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) motor that is both economical AND reliable. They work on up to 90% less electricity than what traditional air conditioning set-ups do.

Tahoe models also feature an AirLoc Gravity Damper. These AirLoc dampers have a precise sealing system which has been designed to have a secured seal to isolate a home's attic from its living space when the fan is not currently in operation.

Each of the Cascade whole house fans have been rigorously tested as well as rated to Home Ventilation Institute Standard HVI-916 and can be used to be able to comply with 2016 Title 24 Part 6. Additionally, they are eligible for use for the Home Energy Renovation Opportunity (HERO) financing program.
